Stephen Gates

Stephen has been working in the renewable energy industry since 2000. His focus has been to mainstream the broad-scale adoption of solar energy. He has done this by creating projects that produce solar power where it is consumed and by selling this power by the kWh for less than fossil fuel generated alternatives. Stephen has successfully deployed this strategy in the residential, industrial, commercial, municipal and utility market segments and has gained a reputation for finding creative solutions to make renewable energy projects work.

Stephen founded the renewable energy micro utility company, Neighborhood Power, in 2009. With the help of the talented and dedicated team at Neighborhood Power he has successfully developed solar projects, based on 20+ year power supply agreements, on every island in Hawaii, California, Oregon, Arizona, Missouri, New York, Connecticut and Puerto Rico.

Stephen has been featured designing and installing solar energy on HGTV and the Discovery Channel. Stephen and his wife, Deyla, have also been featured in Santa Barbara Magazine, highlighting the couple’s ecological business, home and personal lifestyle.

Stephen studied renewable energy at Cal Poly Pomona’s Regenerative Studies Center and attended the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He also apprenticed with world-renowned ecological designers and visionary business leader from around the world.
